Lee Mayne is a self-taught artist whose passion for horses serves as her creative inspiration. As a child, a love for horses was evident and was fostered through the support of her family. Lee worked as a professional and competed in the sport of showjumping throughout North America. She now remains active in the sport as a volunteer and dedicates much of her free time to observing different equestrian disciplines and enjoying the unique characteristics of each.
This deep connection and ongoing involvement has resulted in a desire to explore the essential nature and beauty of the animal. Her work is focused on expressing the relationships between equine movement, mood and form in a contemporary aesthetic. Each image is created to display the unique personality, energy and individuality of a particular equine subject. Working primarily with charcoal and pencil on paper, she connects to her natural subject through the use of natural materials.
Currently, the artist lives and works in Calgary, Alberta working primarily on private commissions although selected works are available through private sale. She has also had great success as a result of being selected to particpate as an artist in the Calgary Stempede Western Showcase Gallery, selling out both years!
